and via va lenty. at least one person is dead. the car caught fire after hitting a tree. we are trying to get more information and we bring it to you as often as we get updates there. >> traffic arkted through the area. we have schools closed. >> the entire expressway is closed down to harry drive. a local landmark is the pw market. south of there, you can't access the expressway. local to the area, camden avenue is alternate and parallel. it also goes past leland high school by bret hart little school. approach from the camden side and use bret hart drive as well heading towards the middle school, but it affects local traffic. we don't know how long it will last. the police department is doing

the investigation. it's over a one-mile area. that's the reason for the closure. we will follow this and the rest of the freeways are moving smoothly. back to you. >> we also have a developing story we are following. nbc news said nine u.s. soldiers are dead from a helicopter crash in afghanistan. the deaths make 2010 the deadliest year for foreign troops. a few details really available about the crash at this time. the taliban claims to have shot down the helicopter and nato said there no reports of enemy fire in the area. new this morning, we have a safety alert for women. east bay police said to be alert as you get in and out of your car. they sexually assaulted two women and are looking for him. christie smith is at lake merit where the attacks happened. >> good morning. we have been out here talking with a lot of women who are exercising and kind of surprised that no one has heard of this. two women robbed and sexually

assaulted. oakland police are putting out a warning to be careful and cautious when you are coming and going. particularly in your car. make sure when you get in, you lock the door behind you. stay in well-lit areas where there people. if you are not alone. this happened on sunday evening and investigators believe that the same man may be responsible. this happened year the lake and police are not saying where. the women were on the way home. this man is armed and this morning we spoke with a woman who is out here walking her dog. >> like anyplace, you think you have to be on alert and i carry mace with me at all times in the morning when i walk the dog. you have to be careful no matter where you live. >> did you hear about what was going on? >> i didn't, no. i haven't seen more police

present at all. >> she said she ordered her mace online and it makes her feel safe. the suspect is described as an african-american male in his 20s with a medium build and wearing dark clothing at the time. they are working on a sketch so as soon as we get that information, we will bring it to you. christie smith, today in the bay. >> thanks for the update and police in the south bay are looking for an attacker. a man tried to rape a jogger on a san jose trial. the woman is a triathlete and she fought back. she was running on the coyote park trail at the south end. when she said the man jumped in front of her. the suspect is an hispanic male about 5'6" and 150 pounds. >> the senate could vote to

overturn the military's don't ask don't tell policy. senators are supposed to end debate on the $725 billion policy bill. include side a repeal of the law. it will most likely pass if democrats can stop a filibuster. they passed a similar measure in may. compromises are expected to pass after the november elections. the president is expected to sign the bill. >> a report out claims a california public pension fund handed out bonuses while the value plummeted. the report looks at the california public pensions employees retirement system otherwise known as calpers. they said almost all calpers investment managers got bonuses of $10,000 and several got more than $100,000.

the beautiful bay bridge in the distance. these are the highs. oakland just 67 and san jose is 73 and cool in san francisco. 64 degrees. >> we now know where the highest risk gas pipelines are located in california. some of them are located under the bay area neighborhoods. bob redell is live with a run down of where the pipelines are located. bob? >> reporter: good morning. turns out the bay area is littered with the pipelines, some of them on the peninsula and others across the bay. let's take number 14 on the top 100 list. a three-mile long section between vargas and mission. santa clara county is home to four pipes. some in san jose. novato and an 1800 foot segment that runs through a suburban

area of lynn darro street. the 6,000 footlong pipeline between page mill and sand hill. segments of that stretch of line made the top 100 list around the middle. because there was potential for corrosion that pg&e is monitoring. a university spokesperson said they don't want anyone to be alarmed, but they said they want to meet to find out what pg&e has done and will do to improve the segments. . >> get pg&e on it right away. this was good rchb at stanford that i would hate to see the campus injured for lack of a better term from an explosion. >> do you trust pg&e? >> trust is an interesting word. what else can we do?

bill that exemption and the local government and the school districts will lose money and these structures are no longer there and don't get the property tax. finally those individuals who have not lost their jobs or lost their business, we will use that loss as a way of helping out with attack liability. this is a small way of trying to rebuild their lives. >> the state has a disaster relief funds allocated to something like this. this is important for people to understand. we are close to three months without this state having a balanced budget. our own households in this economy, everybody scrimping and saving and they have to balance the checkbook. why can't we do it in our state capital? >> the governor is back and he was away on a trade mission. now he is a little bit more engaged. >> yeah, but this has been going on for a long time before the mission. >> you are absolutely right and

these are tough decisions we are making after years and years of a poor economy. we made cuts of $40 billion, $20 billion and back it a $19 billion. the choices are difficult and everyone is trying to hold on to important issues. that's where the battle is. >> we are in a deadlock. it's a battle. you look at the numbers tick on and on, when are we going to get it done? >> now that the governor is back, she more engaged and believe we will finally get a budget. >> i don't know that you can blame it on him being away and all of a sudden we roll up our sleeves and get it done. >> a lot of this is the alignments of different things and now that he is back it's a lot easier. >> let's get it done. thank you very much for joining us. >>. >> house democrats hope to revamp rules at pharmaceutical

plants over seas and hope the rules will help better police the increasingly global market place for prescription drugs. they want to increase the inspections and recall power. there is growing concern over the quality and safety of certain products. >> today is world alzheimer's day. they suggest the u.s. is in denial about the impact of the disease. more than 35 million people around the world have some form of dementia. the group alzheimer's disease international reports today that dementia will cost $604 billion worldwide. today it's bringing 100,000 signatures to capitol hill, begging congress to make alzheimer's a national priority. >> we need more research and a plan for alzheimer's oppenheimers to see the changes occur for the people who would otherwise suffer from the disease in the years ahead.

they report nearly half of those with dementia are upper income. most are living at home with a spouse. obesity also drains the wallets. the annual cost of being obese is about $1400 for women and $2600 for a man. they take into account 6 days and loss of productivity and need for gasoline. it costs women more because they tend to learn less, but it doesn't vary that much for heavy men. >> not all doctors are buying this. the risk of having a heart attack was reduced by 19 percent per for people who had a flu vaccination. some don't buy the results. if getting the shot truly prevented 19% of heart attacks, it would have been noticed

before. another doctor said a link between heart attacks and vaccinations existed. the 19% reduction. >> bethany storro said a stranger threw acid in her face, but last week she admitted that she did it to herself and she now faces charges including theft because he accepted money from fund-raisers. >> i don't think is anyone is really mad about what she did. they are more sad. why would someone do that to themselves? >> prosecutors say police will arrest her when the time is right. right now she is in the hospital. >> we are getting early reports that twitter has been exploited and hacked into right now, thousands of people are saying a third party can get into it.

67. >> finding a job is tough, but it's more so for people over 55. people over 55 take 39 weeks usually to find a job which is longer than any other age group. many of the unemployed over 55 say a lot of times when they go to get a job, they are told they are too qualified for it. >> as i went along, i was told in several jobs i was overqualified and they were afraid i would get bored. conversely, i don't want to starve to death either. >> 2.2 million unemployed are 55 and older. nearly half have been unemployed for six months or longer. >> a controversial military rule could go away as they plan to end debate on a $725 billion bill. that includes a repeal of the law.

today in the bay, tracy pots in washington. will there be a political price to pay? >> you bring up an interesting point. it could play into the mid-term elections. this is an nash favored democrats if you look at the polls. one of the latest shows 61% wants gays to be able to openly serve in the military. they taxed on this massive bill that the senate will start debating. 13,000 members of the military have been dismissed as a result of being openly gay. what will happen from this point? we know in sell a judge struck it down as constitutional. it's being framed as the late gaga versus john cane before.
